Our team of Occupational Therapists is committed to helping neurodivergent young adults build fulfilling futures. We offer specialized support with practical skills to navigate the complexities of adulthood with confidence and greater independence.
Jane Hannafin
Program DirectorJane Hannafin (she/her), MS, OTR/L, earned both her Master’s and undergraduate degrees in Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science from The University of New Hampshire. She joined Ivy Street School in 2012, after several years at Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital’s Traumatic Brain Injury Unit. Initially focusing on transition and vocational programs, she has been a key partner in Ivy Street’s community-based Skills for Life program since 2016, helping young adults gain independence.
Aileen Coen
Manager of Program DevelopmentAileen Coen (she/her), MS, OTR/L, has a Master's in Occupational Therapy from the University of New Hampshire. She specializes in home and community-based pediatrics, using aquatic and recreation-based therapies. Aileen's background in higher education includes work in Student Accessibility Services and assistive technology research. Her passion for supporting individuals and families stems from growing up in a neurodiverse family.
Trevor Bryant
Occupational TherapistTrevor Bryant (he/him), OT, MSOT, OTR joined the Skills For Life team in fall 2023. Trevor has a Master’s in Occupational Therapy from Tufts University and an undergraduate degree in psychology and disability studies from University of Massachusetts – Lowell. As an OT, Trevor has experience in inpatient rehabilitation where he assisted individuals facing challenges such as amputations, burns, trauma, and spinal cord injuries and guided them in regaining independence and enhancing quality of life. More recently Trevor has served as a clinician in a Program for Assertive Community Treatment, where he collaborated with individuals living with mental health diagnosis in developing essential life skills and making progress towards goals in valued areas of life. Trevor places a strong emphasis on building relationships with his clients and meeting them where they are in their unique journeys.
Clare Emmert
Occupational TherapistClare Emmert (she/her), OTD, OTR, holds a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Boston University and will be joining the SFL team as a part time occupational therapist. Clare is originally from Arizona and since moving to Boston, she has had the pleasure of working with many different communities through the field of OT. Clare's clinical practice has included working with youth experiencing foster care in an occupation-based literacy program, supporting neurodiverse highschoolers in navigating the transition to adulthood, providing personal training to neurodiverse athletes and working with adults with spinal cord injury. Clare is thrilled to be joining the SFL team and continuing to support individuals in achieving their goals.
Tori Richardson
Occupational TherapistTori Richardson (they/them), OTD, OTR, holds a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Boston University. They grew up in the Boston area and returned to the area for graduate school after living in the Midwest for several years. They have spent the past 11 months working at the Ivy Street School as a school-based OT. Tori has over a decade of experience supporting neurodivergent youth and young adults, in multiple settings including summer camps, inpatient hospitals, residential, and community-based contexts. They are passionate about supporting all young people with healthy relationships, feeling connected within their communities, and creating spaces for LGBTQ+ youth to thrive.
Abigail Schmidt
Occupational TherapistAbigail Schmidt (she/her), OTD, OTR, holds a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Boston University. Prior to pursuing her degree, Abigail worked at Ivy Street School as a Community and College Coach and was a Community Coach with Skills for Life. While completing her coursework, Abigail simultaneously worked at Focus Collegiate as a community-based Academic Supports Specialist. During her clinical experiences, Abigail worked in adult community-based mental health at the Mass Mental Health Center, and outpatient pediatrics at the Boston Ability Center. Additionally, she completed her doctoral capstone project for Lesley University's Threshold Lifelong Support Program where she developed and piloted daily living skills groups with young adults with intellectual, developmental, and nonverbal learning disabilities. With over eight years of experience working with young adults, Abigail returns to us with a renewed passion for neurodiversity affirming practice with this population and looks forward to creating meaningful connections with her clients in order to help them reach their individual goals.
