Families
Family Empowerment and Learning Academy
At Ivy Street, we are committed to supporting students through dynamic and real-world learning, therapeutic supports, and community. Our work also includes you: our families. We are excited to launch this year’s parent learning, social connection, and support series with the goal of reducing shame around parenting youth with disabilities, building skills to use at home with your children, and creating community among our Ivy families.
All workshops, trainings, and support groups are held virtually 6:30-7:30pm.
Meetings are held via Microsoft Teams. Teams invites will be sent out 2 weeks prior to each session.
Ivy Led Workshops
This year, our Academy workshops focus on Ivy Street’s Profile of a Graduate: supporting our
young people and family members in reaching their goals and the goals we hold for all of
our graduates. Workshops will be led by Ivy Street’s interdisciplinary team of specialists.
Transition Workshop Series
Preparing for the transition out of high school is a complex process. In this series, we will walk through the various aspects of the process and work to understand each step.
Family Support Groups
Our Parent Support Groups provide an opportunity to connect over shared experiences and find common ground. Led by Ivy Street clinicians, these groups make space for families to discuss difficult topics and heal together. Family Support Groups will be held quarterly this year.
Connection and Community
Connection is essential to building and participating in a community. We offer regular
opportunities for families to connect with one another and our team through events like the
family barbecue, back to school night, extravaganza, prom, and graduation.
Guest Speakers
A key piece to supporting our families and students in planning for their next steps is
through building their network. We will be pulling in external guest speakers to share about
their experiences and to offer resources.
Parent Advisory Group
Our families’ voices are essential in refining the work we do at Ivy Street. Parent Advisory Group is a dedicated space for families to discuss the critical issues impacting our organization.
